Navratri Festival Celebration 2017

This is a major event. Navratri means nine nights and is marked by special religious music, dancing and prayer. Both men and women take part in dancing and prayers in their colourful traditional costumes. Navratri is celebrated twice in a year – Chaitra or Vasant Navratri ( March – April ) and Sharad Navratri ( October – November ) Both celebrations centre on worship of goddess Shakti.

In Gujarat, Navratri Festival celebrates worship of goddess Jagdamba. Navratri Festival is dedicated to three Avtars of goddess Shakti namely Durga, the warrior, Laxmi, the wealth, and Saraswati, the knowledge. Nine forms of Shakti (Goddesses) are worshiped during Navratri:-
